Tarte Lip Surgence

I am always looking for the perfect nude lip and after watching a video that Tarte posted on FB  titled "the nude lip for the new year," I decided to buy the shades recommended plus one more :) The shades are Peaceful natural lip tint, Exposed natural matte lip tint and Joy natural lip stain.  At the end of my review I will have pictures of swatches of my other Tarte LipSurgence products.

This is the product information from tartecosmetics.com:
"These anticipated natural gel lip tints are an extension to our best-selling and award-winning cheek stains and like our iconic stains each emotive, peppermint-infused shade glides on smooth for a natural flush that will stay all day.  Earth engineered from a proprietary blend of plant bio-nutrients, our LipSurgence™ technology quickly absorbs into the skin delivering a surge of moisture on a cellular level, effectively and naturally increasing skin's water content for a 'plumped up' appearance. The result is naturally fuller, healthier lips without any irritation or stinging.
Just like the original and best-selling natural lip stains, LipSurgence™ natural matte lip stains are peppermint-infused and glide on smooth for a rich matte finish that will stay all day. Each of the matte shades boasts the high pigment concentration we love from matte lipsticks, but unlike drying lipsticks these stains are infused with our high-performance natural™ LipSurgence™ technology which is clinically proven to increase moisture content by an astonishing 6000% after 28 days."

Peaceful is a beautiful sheer, glossy, peachy nude.  Joy is a bright, glossy coral color and Exposed is nude plum with brown undertones and is a matte finish.

Here I am wearing Exposed and Peaceful layered together like the video suggests. Personally, it doesn't look nude to me at all. It has too much coloring for me to consider it a true nude.

I really liked wearing these except for the Exposed shade, you really need to layer that with a gloss or your lips might feel dry. In fact, while I was applying this shade to my lips the shade stick inside broke in half. So my conclusion is that the formula is too dry. The other shades are soft and buttery with just the right amount of color.  They smell and taste like peppermint but the taste isn't overwhelming.  They don't sting or irritate your lips at all. The wear time for me was about 2hrs, it did leave my lips with some color (exposed left a stain for a longer time after the product was completely gone) but the gloss and smooth feeling was gone after 2hrs. My lips didn't feel dry but they weren't emollient either. So for me they didn't "stay all day!" I really wish I could try wearing only this product on my lips for 28 days to see if my lips really do feel 6000% more moisturized as their claim says but I love other lip products and I don't think I will try. I bought these at Ulta for $24 and I think they are totally worth the price....even the broken one, I love the shade when applied with Peaceful!
